Lynne and I had an amazing opportunity to sail in Alaska on the American Queen Voyages Ocean Victory. This is an expedition cruise, and for one of them expedition days, we got to ride in a Zodiac to about a mile away from the Dawes Glacier in the Endicott Arm Fjord. The Glacier and landscape were just breathtaking, and while we were visiting it, a large piece of the glacier broke off in front of us. It was about the size of a 5-story building! When pieces of the ice break off it is called calving. You can hear some of the thundering of the glacier in the video. Lynne and I had the chance to sail on the Ocean Victory, the newest American Queen Voyages ship. We sailed from Vancouver to Sitka, Alaska on an amazing 10-night sailing on this gorgeous expedition ship. One of the exceptional inclusions of sailing with American Queen is that they will invite local, cultural representatives to talk and to share about the tribes with guests. We were honored to speak with Rachel, who is an elder member of the Tlingit tribe in southeastern Alaska. On American Queen, they have a full expedition team to help guests better understand the world they're sailing through and bring them closer to nature. Christina is a member of the expedition team on board and a huge fan of the local animals. She sat down with us to chat for a bit about her job and her favorite animals, whales. Then we caught Jess, the Expedition Team Leader, for a quick interview before she got called away for something really exciting. She shares some of her experience with doing expeditions before we had to run up on deck to see what the excitement was really about. I've added videos of the sights so you can catch a glimpse as well. Hint, hint, we were beyond excited to see what they affectionately called "oreos." They are a bit far off because it is illegal to come within a certain distance of them but hopefully you will be able to understand the awesome sight of seeing them in the wild. The Festival of the Lion King will always be one of my favorite shows for many reasons. The talent of the performers is second to none. I saw the Lion King on Broadway, and this celebration of the favorite story is not lacking in comparison. You can enjoy some favorite songs from the movie in a room filled with dancers, singers, and performers. This show is also very personal for me because I watched it with my kids just before going through a very difficult time in my life, and then I was able to watch it again with them on the other side of that time. I don't think I will ever be able to watch it without crying. The Celebration of Festival of the Lion King is a modified version of the original show so there are some changes that you may notice if you've seen it before. Enjoy the show. Epcot Forever was an interim show after Illuminations: Reflections of Earth to entertain guests until the new Harmonious show began. This video shows the post-Covid version which doesn't include the kites, but has a lot more fireworks. I love reminiscing with the old theme songs from Epcot and especially hearing Walt Disney's voice. The kids and I got to attend a passholder preview of the new attraction in the France pavilion in Epcot, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. Spoiler alert - this is the full POV of the ride. Join Remy on an adventure through Gusteau's Restaurant. The ride is a 3D attraction so the video is a little distorted because of the 3D but you can get a good idea about what to expect. It may also be in English or in French so you never know which you will hear. I get motion sick on rides, so POV's can be helpful for me. There are some fast movements and a little turning, but I was able to enjoy the ride. Lynne and I got to visit the Sawgrass Recreation Park in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and I was so excited to take my first Everglades airboat ride. One of the local alligators visited the boat - he was so close!! We also saw a huge iguana and an Anhinga bird. After the boat ride, we toured the park to see the rescued reptiles living there in the exhibit area, and we enjoyed the gator demonstration. We finished the visit with meeting a baby alligator. My family and I were so excited to go to the first Boo Bash Halloween party in Magic Kingdom. It was a nice mix of Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and an after hours party. There were special character cavalcades and character appearances, exclusive snacks and drinks, and lots of trick or treat candy and refreshments. We had a great time and really filled the 3 hours. While I was visiting Costa Rica, I was able to go to the Diamante Eco Adventure Park in Guanacaste. There are different activities you can do in the park like zip lining and riding ATVs, but I just visited the Costa Rica Wildlife Sanctuary so I'll have to go back to try out more adventures. In the Sanctuary, we got to see several monkeys, including a wild Howler Monkey that was visiting. There were frogs and reptiles, jaguars and pumas, and several birds and butterflies. It is such a nice park to walk around, and it is very relaxing. On my visit to Costa Rica, I got to enjoy the excursion of Buena Vista Mega Combo Adventure at the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, in Guanacaste. It was a full day experience filled with activities. I hiked on suspension bridges through the jungle, went horseback riding own the volcanic trails, and was brave enough to tackle a 1,400 ft. waterslide, the longest jungle waterslide in the world. They presented cultural Costa Rican demonstrations of pottery and enjoyed a traditional Costa Rican lunch. We finished the day soaking in natural hot springs and pools while watching monkeys interact in the trees above. Alex, Boo, and I got to check out Blizzard Beach for an afternoon. It was so exciting to be back in the water park after it had been closed for about a year. We took a walk around the the park, relaxed on Cross Country Creek lazy river, dunked in the wave pool, and went to the top of Mt. Gushmore. Which is your favorite slide in Blizzard Beach? The kids and I got to visit Epcot for the Taste of Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival around World Showcase. Epcot is my favorite park, and I really love the festivals. The Flower & Garden Festival is something special with all of the featured gardens and topiaries. As we walked around, we checked out World Showplace to see the booths and displays, and we heard Mariachi Cobre in the American Pavilion. We tried snacks in the Citrus Blossom, Sunshine Griddle, and Cider House. Which is your favorite booth? The kids and I visited SeaWorld Orlando on a busy Saturday to check out the Seven Seas Food Festival, see the animals, and try to get on some rides. We had fun visiting with the manatees, dolphins, sharks, turtles, sea lions, sting rays, and walrus. I'm a big animal lover so the exhibits are my favorite. You can see some of the rides like Journey to Atlantis and Manta. I was really excited to see the test runs for the new Ice Breaker coaster, not that I will be able to ride it. The kids and I took a walk around the Islands of Adventure circle to see what may be new, watch VelociCoaster running, and jump on some attractions. We rode Skull Island Reign of Kong and Jurassic Park River Adventure. We got a treat in Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade and saw a great perspective of the new thrill ride, Jurassic World VelociCoaster. We got to see it running from every angle. Then in Seuss Landing, we rode the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride. I just love that ride and the views of the park it gives you. Mardi Gras 2021: International Flavors of Carnaval in Universal Studios Florida is such a fun event. The kids and I got to visit Universal Orlando and check out all of the Mardi Gras floats and festivities. We walked through the Tribute Store, collected beads, tried some treats, and really enjoyed the street performers. We walked through the Simpsons' area in Springfield because it's one of my favorite areas.
