Hidden Gems

Everyone knows that Walt Disney World is home to some standout attractions like Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as well as the classics like It's a Small World, Dumbo and Peter Pan's Flight. I love these and enjoy all the thrills and unique experiences that make Disney, well, DISNEY!

What I also love doing, is finding those special, smaller things that you might walk right past without noticing them. When you slow down and take your time, you can discover all those little details that make Walt Disney World memorable.

Take, for example, EPCOT's World Showcase. I hear from families that they just don't see what there is to do there. And, I get it. There are just a couple of rides and character meets. Other than that, it appears to be just a dining and shopping destination. I suggest that, if you slow down and let your curiosity guide you, you will find a lot to discover.

Here are a couple of examples from a recent trip. In Canada, I found a little walking path tucked away that young kids would find charming. It features the wildlife of Canada and showcases their footprints and characteristics.

On the same trip, I went into the Mexico pavilion - always a favorite stop for me. I enjoy the atmosphere inside the pyramid. It's set up like an outdoor marketplace at night. If the line is short, I take a spin on The Gran Fiesta Tour featuring the Three Caballeros. But, on this visit, I was really excited to check out the museum part of the pavilion. The movie "Coco" had recently been released and, on display, were real life examples of the art and artists that were featured in the film. I enjoyed learning more about sugar skulls and papel picado.

So, give it a try on your next visit. Spend some time just wandering and stopping wherever you see something interesting. You never know what you will see or where it will lead!
