UPDATED: 5 Things to Love About Port Orleans French Quarter

Get ready to celebrate! Next year, 2021, will mark the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort!! Package bookings for 2021 should open up in mid-June. From now until then, we will be revisiting our 5 Reasons to Love series about WDW resorts to help you decide where to stay next year.

Walt Disney World - which is roughly the size of San Francisco - can be an overwhelming place to visit. Many of the resorts are also large and spread out, making them a less than relaxing experience. In comes Port Orleans - French Quarter - a petite, sweet charmer of a resort. Just right for a romantic honeymoon, or for any guest wanting a more intimate home base for their mouse-venture.

Here are my Top Five things to love about Port Orleans French Quarter:

1. The Size!

With just over 1,000 rooms, French Quarter is about half the size of her sister resort, Port Orleans - Riverside. While that may sound large, guests in even the furthest of the seven buildings can walk to the one bus stop in about 5 minutes.

2. Theming

Brick walkways, wrought iron railings, plenty of fountains and shade trees evoke the deep south city of New Orleans. French Quarter is even set alongside the lazy Sassagoula River.

3. Boats to Disney Springs

With the explosion of dining and entertainment options at Disney Springs, the boat transportation to and from French Quarter opens up a world of possibilities for guests. The boats run every 15 to 20 minutes and are a relaxing, but quick way to access Disney Springs.

4. The Pool (s)

Guests at Port Orleans French Quarter enjoy a themed pool with a sea dragon slide PLUS a splash ground play area for kids! There's a pool bar as well located adjacent. Your day off from the parks just got a little more fun! In addition, guests at either Port Orleans resorts are welcome to use the pools at BOTH Riverside and French Quarter (as long as capacity allows), doubling your pool fun.

5. The Food

Sassagoula Floatworks underwent a remodel just a couple of years ago, opening up the space and making it bright and airy. Freshly made beignets, that New Orleans classic treat, are available all day long. They even have gluten-free ones available upon request. Delicious! While standard Disney fare is available, I suggest trying some of their cajun specialities as well. I am particularly fond of the shrimp and grits!

So that's my Five Things and I didn't even mention the newly refurbished rooms. I guess there's SIX total! I highly recommend Port Orleans French Quarter for your next trip to Walt Disney World. It's like a Deluxe resort at a Moderate price.
