Updated: 5 Things to Love about The Polynesian Village Resort

Get ready to celebrate! Next year, 2021, will mark the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort!! Package bookings for 2021 should open up in mid-June. From now until then, we will be revisiting our 5 Reasons to Love series about WDW resorts to help you decide where to stay next year.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort opened with Walt Disney World in 1971 and has been a fan favorite ever since! What do we love about this resort? Here's our list:

1. South Pacific Theme

I just love the theming at The Poly! Just step into the Great Ceremonial House and it really feels like you've been transported to Hawaii. In fact, guests are usually greeted traditionally - with a lei. A few years ago, the lobby and pools were refurbished here but the theming is still strong here. Tiki statues, exotic flowers, rich wood and vibrant colors all create that tropical atmosphere we love.

2. Location Close to the Magic!

It doesn't get much better that this! With quick and convenient monorail rides to Magic Kingdom and the other area resorts (The Contemporary and The Grand Floridian), guests can make the most of their time at Walt Disney World. Or hop on a boat to Magic Kingdom for a more relaxing ride. You can also walk over to the Ticket & Transportation Center to avoid transferring monorail lines to get to EPCOT.

3. Dining: So MUCH Food!

Some favorite dining options in all of Walt Disney World are located right at The Poly. 'Ohana serves up a delicious, family-style breakfast with Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto. It's all fun and games at dinnertime. Guests can enjoy a family style Hawaiian feast with beef skewers, dumplings, lo mein noodles, salad and stir fried vegetables with story telling, hula dancing and games for the children.

Over at Kona Cafe, enjoy their famous Tonga Toast, or macadamia nut pancakes with pineapple topping (my personal favorite). Lunch and dinner menus feature some specialty foods like sushi, noodle bowls plus some familiar dishes with a Hawaiian spin.

Catch dinner with a show at Disney's Spirit of Aloha! Traditional dancers, musicians and fire dancers entertain while guests enjoy an all-you-care-to-enjoy tropical feast!

The quick service, Captain Cook's, is open 24 hours for grab and go, which is really handy for those attending holiday parties or After Hours events. The menu offers some American favorites, but also some delicious specialty foods like pulled pork nachos and coconut meatballs.

*Pro Tip: You can get Tonga Toast here without a reservation at Kona Cafe!

Want a lighter bite?

Over at Pineapple Lanai - just off the Great Ceremonial House lobby, get your Dole Whip fix!

Inside, Kona Island serves continental breakfast items like donuts, muffins and bagels and kona coffee in the morning. In the afternoon to evening, enjoy fresh rolled sushi.

4. Huge, Comfortable Rooms

When it comes to hotel rooms, bigger really is better! These are some of the largest standard rooms on Walt Disney World property. At 415 square feet, these rooms accommodate families of five with 2 queen beds and a daybed. The studio villa rooms are even larger, have two bathrooms plus a kitchenette.

5. Amazing Pools

One of the best pools on property, the Lava Pool features zero entry and a spectacular slide. Guests can also enjoy a fun, water play area and a hot tub for soaking those aching legs and feet. The Oasis pool offers a quieter experience.

BONUS: Trader Sam's: a bar / lounge with a twist offers cocktails in a super fun, only at Disney atmosphere. It's small, so you may have to wait, but it's so much fun! Great for adult evenings!!

There are so many reasons to LOVE Disney's Polynesian Village Resort! Give it a try on your next trip to Walt Disney World!
