5 Things to Love: Coronado Springs

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort saw a lot of renovations over the last few years, and everything has now been completed. The new centerpiece is the Gran Destino Tower. Its theme is Spanish and southwestern America. I stayed there late last year for our 10-year anniversary, it was my first time there and we were very impressed!

1. The Dig Site

This is the name for the recreation area which includes the main pool on site, Lost City of Cibola pool. It also has the largest outdoor hot tub on Walt Disney World resort. It contains a 50-foot replica of a Mayan pyramid with a waterslide! Plus, a kids playground, table tennis, a volleyball court, arcade and Siestas Cantina a poolside quick service location serving food and cocktails all day.

2. Dining Options

There are SO many dining options at Coronado Springs there is something that is sure to please everyone.

Bars and Lounges for adults to relax:

  • Barcelona Lounge on the first floor of the Gran Destino Tower

  • Dahlia Lounge on the rooftop of the Tower

  • Three Bridges Bar & Grill located on the water in the middle of Lago Dorado

  • Laguna Bar is a small bar also located lakeside but right outside of the Tower

Table service dining:

  • Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood is also located at the top of the Tower. It is a super value for the dining plan at only 1 table service credit and features fabulous authentic Spanish wines and flavors. It’s quite the experience!

  • Maya Grill serves more traditional Mexican fare and is the original table service restaurant at the resort.

  • Rix Sports Bar & Grill features draft beers, and cocktails with 31 TVs to view live sporting events.

Quick Service

  • Café Rix is a grab and go location for smoothies, coffee or selections of quick snacks to go.

  • El Mercado de Coronado is the main quick counter service location for the resort. There is a variety of traditional American and international dishes

  • Siestas Cantina mentioned above is located poolside at the Dig Site

3. Location

I was pleasantly surprised at how short our bus trips were to Animal Kingdom, Epcot

and Hollywood Studios. You can see Epcot and Hollywood Studios from the rooftop of the Tower, so it’s a great place to view the nightly fireworks. But the resort is located pretty much right between Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom so it’s one of the few resorts on property where you can get to Animal Kingdom in less than 20 minutes. If that’s one of your favorite parks, and it is in our family, this is a great resort.

4. Room Variety

There are so many different room types, it’s a great option for larger parties.

  • Water View, Preferred and Standard Rooms for up to 4 adults

  • King – Preferred, Water View and Standard for up to 2 adults

  • Casitas – Executive Suite for up to 8 adults

  • 1 Bedroom Suites for up to 4 or 6 adults

  • Tower rooms – King, Water View and Standard View

5. Business Amenities

Because there are conference centers on property you will also benefit from the business amenities that you won’t see at any other moderate or any value resorts. You’d have to stay at a deluxe resorts for most of these perks:

  • A fitness center

  • Jogging trail

  • Full service spa

  • Business center
