Our amazing blog contributor Kara Brown is at it again, but this time we have a series of great Chattanooga, Tennessee locations to enjoy.
I had big plans for Summer 2021… at least in my head. We love to travel, our girls were old enough to explore, learn and have fun AND there are lots of fun places within just a few hours drive from home. But then there’s reality…road trips…with toddlers...all their stuff...during a pandemic when everyone else is out of school and also traveling. All things considered, we decided to enjoy most of our summer at home. We had memberships to our local aquarium and children’ museum, access to a few family members’ pools and several other fun opportunities to enjoy our city.
I’ll be honest, I’m a terrible Chattanoogan. I’ve lived here my entire life (minus 15 months up the road in Knoxville for my husband’s grad school), but I don’t really know the “city” very well- sure. I can get around great and I know all the main things but as far as the locally owned restaurants, great spots to sightsee, etc., I’m clueless! I just didn’t grow up visiting our downtown area often, and still don’t - something I’m hoping to change soon! With all that said, here is a little peek into part one of our summer of hometown exploration!
The Creative Discovery Museum is one of our new favorite places in Chattanooga. You can “unearth the curiosities of the world through play, immersive exhibits, and hands-on activities” at this can’t-miss attraction. With several themed areas geared to different age groups and interests, this gem is a must-do for young families! Since purchasing our membership back in May, we’ve definitely gotten our money’s worth and have visited multiple times.
Chattanooga is also home to Tennessee Aquarium, located right on the bank of the Tennessee River. With two buildings - Ocean Journey and River Journey, its easy to spend all morning wandering the exhibits and exploring the nearby riverfront area. And if you think the inside of the aquarium is fun for a toddler during summer the outside might be even better! With rivers and waterfall steps built into the central plaza between the two aquarium buildings kids can splash and play for hour
These are just two of many options Chattanooga has for both locals and visitors. After this summer I’m disappointed that I’ve lived here so long and there is so much I haven’t seen. Thankfully, having kids who love to explore is helping me branch out and really get to know my hometown!
