I recently enjoyed a phenomenal breakfast at Boma. Boma is located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, inside of Jambo House. We had a 10:30 AM breakfast reservation. Our visit was on our last day, prior to pickup by Magical Express for our afternoon flight back to Boston.
Upon arrival, we checked in at the podium at the bottom of the stairway. Boma shares a hallway with Jiko and is to the left. Our hostess took our name and a phone number to text us when our table was ready. Within 5 minutes, we received a text notifying us that our table was ready, and we were seated.
Our server offered us coffee and “Jungle Juice” (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava juice blended together). We accepted the offer for juice and made our way to the buffet.
Boma has to have the most extensive breakfast buffet on property. In addition to staples such as bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, and a variety of pastries, Boma offers some wonderful African inspired dishes. A personal favorite of mine is the Turkey Boboti, which is a South African dish, similar to quiche with an egg base and some unique spices and raisins. It’s a nice combination of sweet and savory.
Other unique African dishes include Chakalaka (South African Spicy Tomato Stew), Pap (Creamy white cornmeal), and Oak-Grilled Tomatoes and Asparagus. Guests can also enjoy hand-carved ham and turkey during breakfast, along with unique accompaniments such as Boma Mustard and Sambal (Chili sauce).
The oatmeal station includes both traditional oatmeal and quinoa which can be customized with mix-ins such as raisins and brown sugar. Fresh fruits and nuts can be taken from other parts of the buffet to be mixed in as well.
In addition to standard scrambled eggs, there was also a specialty dish of scrambled eggs with goat cheese and chives. These were amazingly creamy and flavorful. Made to order omelets are also available.
As previously mentioned, fresh fruit including melons, strawberries, and pineapple are served alongside some unique salads. On this particular morning, there was a Spinach and Quinoa Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing, Avocado, Papaya, and Grapefruit Salad and a Watermelon Rind Salad offered.
The next station included plain and banana yogurt plus a number of mix-ins including nuts, raisins, banana chips, mini m&ms, and mini chocolate chips.
The charcuterie station included smoked salmon, ham, turkey, and salami cold cuts and various cheeses. Cucumbers, red onions, and tomatoes are also offered here.
BONUS! If you are on a low-carb or keto diet, you can definitely find plenty to eat at Boma, beyond just bacon.
Pastries a plenty are available at Boma. They offer fresh-made and fluffy glazed and chocolate donuts, sticky buns with pecan topping, cinnamon rolls, various mini-muffins, banana bread, and a dish unique to Boma - French Toast Bread Pudding. This is served alongside a peanut sauce, but I took some vanilla sauce from the next station to add to mine and it was delectable.
There are various breads available as well including bagels and croissants and a toaster is set up nearby for your convenience.
My husband and I finished our meal with some of the pastries as mentioned and a Simba waffle. The traditional Mickey Waffle is also available, but when in Africa a Simba waffle is a must!
Compared to other breakfast buffets on property, I personally feel Boma is a bargain at $29.00 for adults and $16.00 for children ages 3-9. Boma offers a discount to DVC Owners, Annual Passholders and Disney Visa Cardholders.
The variety is astonishing and everything was delicious! This is one of my favorite breakfasts on property and did not disappoint on my recent visit. I highly recommend Boma to anyone looking for something unique on Disney property or anyone looking to go a bit off the beaten path who wants to visit Animal Kingdom Lodge.
