Three Unique Weekend Getaways in Ohio

This week we are lucky to have Coasters & Castles Travel Advisor Sydney Burkhardt give us an update on her home state of Ohio.

There are so many things to do in Ohio, and in my opinion that is what makes us unique and special.

The first weekend getaway that I am going to be discussing is Hocking Hills. Hocking Hills is a state park and a state forest. There are over 20 miles of trails, waters, and rock formations. People can enjoy Ohio Glass Museum and Glass Blowing studio, where there are tours and classes which include individual, and group of up to 30 people. For people who like outside activities there are plenty of bicycling, climbing and rappelling, fishing, and horseback riding! There are even golf courses that also include mini golf. For a more relaxing trip there are spas. At the Blue Valley Massage and Traveling Spa there are options for couple massages and fun spa parties! When staying in a partnered cabin Blue Valley, will even come to you during your stay at a partnered cabin! For a fun night activity try the Hocking Hills Zipline under the stars!

The second place in Ohio that would be great for a weekend getaway is Lake Erie. When staying at Lake Erie, be sure to check out Cedar Point’s world class roller coasters and activities! There are private cabanas and water slides for your families’ enjoyment! Families are also able to rent a Wave Runner and enjoy parasailing! Throughout the year Cedar Point offers special events such as Halloweekends which is a fun spooky event during the fall months. The children (and adults) can meet Snoopy and his friends! Let us not forget the dining and drinks! One of my personal favorites is the Senor Vargas’ Walking Tacos because who does not love taco’s in a bag! For the quieter side of Lake Erie you can visit the beaches. Prevue Isle Beach is a great place to swim and bird watch! One more fun thing to do at Lake Erie is a visit to Marble Head light house! People can climb the inside of this light house and can see what it was like being a lightkeeper in the mid-17th-century.

The final weekend getaway that I think you will enjoy is Cincinnati located on the Ohio River. There are fun flea markets with unique pieces and the Smale Riverfront Park which is filled with gardens and beautiful walking paths. A great romantic date could include the piano located in the middle of a garden! There are also swings that overlook the River for some more romantic time. A piece of history in Cincinnati is the Underground Railroad Freedom Center featuring the Rosa Parks Experience which allows people to see what it was like for people to endure the Jim Crow Laws. Cincinnati has a world class zoo that is located right downtown. But, let’s not forget an afternoon baseball game watching the Cincinnati Reds! But as always what is there to eat? Well, a unique part of Cincinnati is Skyline Chili. People claim that once you try it you will always go back for more! After some Spaghetti Chili, you can stroll over to Graeter’s Ice Cream which was invented right in Cincinnati.

I hope you think about experiencing what it is like being a Buckeye for a weekend!
