How to secure a boarding group for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the newest attraction at Walt Disney World. Located in World Discovery in Epcot it's a family friendly coaster where you assist the Guardians on an intergalactic mission! It's Disney's first ever reverse launch coaster and guests are raving about it.

Awesome Mix!

You know the Guardian's like their music so the attraction features it's own 'Awesome Mix'. Each time you ride you will hear one of these songs;

  1. September

  2. Disco Inferno

  3. Conga

  4. Everybody Wants to Rule the World

  5. I Ran

  6. One Way or Another

Know Before You Go!

Here are a few spoiler free facts about the attraction. It can be intense for some guests so it's best to be prepared before riding.

  1. The minimum height is 42 inches.

  2. It is an omnicoaster so the vehicles don't only ride forwards but can move in other directions as well.

  3. You will be launched in reverse and the coaster is entirely indoors so think Space Mountain or Rock n Roller Coaster.

  4. There are screens used so the vehicles turn to direct your attention.

  5. There are some guests who will find the above 3 items to cause nausea but most people I've talked to loved it and had no issues! You don't actually spin but you will just be turned slightly. Think the swaying mine cars of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and the ride is very smooth so no jerky movements.

  6. If coasters tend to make you sick you may want to take precautions.

  7. The actual ride is over 3 minutes long. It's one of the longest indoor coasters in the world!

  8. The best overall view is in the middle row.

  9. If you are worried about the intensity then request one of the front rows.

  10. As always, if you want the most intense experience head towards the back!

  11. Make sure you check out the giftshop on the way out, Treasures of Xandar. It's full of Marvel goodies!

  12. Currently there are two ways to ride; Join a Boarding Group for free or buy an Individual Lightning Lane. Hot tip.... want to ride twice, do both! The price for the lightning lane is around $14 per person.

Key Facts on Getting a Boarding Group

There are a few things to keep in mind in order to join a boarding group.

  1. You must have a park pass reservation for Epcot if you want to ride during regular park hours.

  2. You don't have to be in the park or even on Disney property to join a boarding group at 7am.

  3. You must be inside Epcot to join the 1pm group.

  4. There are 3 opportunities to join a group each day; at 7am and 1pm. Both of these require an Epcot park pass. Then at 6pm if you are a deluxe resort guest and plan to attend Extended Evening Hours which take place every Monday night.

How to get a Boarding Group

Here is a step by step guide on how to join a boarding group.

  1. Be up by 6:55am. On the home screen of the My Disney Experience app go down to the section for Virtual Queue. Hit Join Virtual Queue. You can also go to the sandwich menu and choose Virtual Queue.

  2. Confirm your party. It will default to anyone on your Friends and Family list with a park pass for Epcot. Hit ‘Confirm Your Party’. Have this step completed and be on that screen waiting by 6:58am.

  3. Keep dragging your finger down to refresh your screen or hit ‘Refresh’. Once 7am hits you'll see JOIN VIRTUAL QUEUE.

  4. Hit Done.

  5. If successful you’ll be assigned a boarding group number! Screenshot your boarding info (just in case).

  6. Be sure notifications are turned ON in your app. You will get a notification when your boarding group is called or you can check by clicking on My Status Under Virtual Queues in your app. You will be able to see what groups are being called currently and it will give you an estimated return time.

  7. You will only have an hour to return but if you miss your window, it’s ok, they should still let you ride.

  8. You will be asked to scan your magic band or ticket upon arrival.

Tips to joining a Boarding Group

This is what you came for, these tips should help increase your chances to join a boarding group!

  1. Turn off your cell phones Wifi, get off of Disney's Wifi. Use your cell phones data, it will be faster than the network every other resort guest is on.

  2. Keep an eye on the time, be ready prior to 7am.

  3. Move fast, don't hesitate!

  4. You have to keep moving and refreshing. JUST CLICK! DON’T MESS WITH ANYTHING, DON’T READ ANYTHING! If someone you are with doesn’t want to ride, don’t unselect them. That will waste precious time. When your group is called you can speak with a cast member and they can modify your party if needed.

  5. If you don’t get a boarding group at 7am you can try again at 1pm, but you must be inside Epcot to join this group. Just follow the same process as above. And sometimes thru the day there will be groups available, so keep checking back in case something becomes available.
